Invisalign

Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment that utilizes a series of clear, custom-made aligners to straighten teeth and correct bite issues gradually. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, making them a discreet and aesthetic option for orthodontic treatment. Also, the aligners are removable, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance of oral hygiene and the flexibility to eat and drink without restrictions.

In addition to their cosmetic appeal, Invisalign aligners can provide enhanced comfort compared to braces, with no metal wires or brackets that cause irritation or discomfort. With its ability to address many orthodontic issues while providing convenience, comfort, and aesthetics, Invisalign has become a preferred choice for many individuals seeking a discreet and effective solution for straightening their smiles.

The Procedure for Invisalign

Initial Consultation

The process begins with an initial consultation with a qualified Invisalign provider, typically an orthodontist or dentist trained in Invisalign treatment. During the consultation, the provider:

  • Evaluates the patient's dental health,
  • Discusses treatment goals, and
  • Determines if Invisalign is the right option for them.

Digital Impressions or 3D Scanning

If Invisalign is deemed suitable, the provider takes digital impressions or 3D scans of the patient's teeth and bite. These digital images are used to create a precise 3D model of the patient's mouth, allowing the provider to plan and visualize the movement of the teeth throughout treatment.

Customized Treatment Plan

Based on the digital impressions and 3D model, the provider develops a customized treatment plan that outlines the specific movements of the teeth at each stage of the Invisalign process. The provider can use advanced computer software to predict the treatment outcome and create a series of aligners that will gradually shift the teeth into their desired positions.

Fabrication of Aligners

Once the treatment plan is finalized, the digital data is sent to a specialized laboratory to fabricate the custom-made Invisalign aligners. The aligners are made from clear, BPA-free plastic material that is virtually invisible when worn.

Fitting of Aligners

  • When the aligners are ready, the patient returns to the provider's office to receive their first set of aligners.
  • The provider also ensures that the aligners fit comfortably and provides instructions on how to wear and care for them.

Wearing the Aligners

  • Throughout treatment, the patient wears each set of aligners for about 20 to 22 hours daily, removing them only when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.
  • Depending on the treatment plan, the patient progresses to the next set of aligners in the series every one to two weeks, which gradually shifts the teeth into alignment.

Monitoring Progress

The patient visits their Invisalign provider periodically, typically every six to eight weeks, for progress checks and to receive new aligners. During these appointments, the provider:

  • Monitors the patient's progress,
  • Makes necessary adjustments to the treatment plan, and
  • Addresses any questions or concerns.

Completion of Treatment

Once the final set of aligners has been worn and the desired tooth movements have been achieved, the active phase of treatment is complete. The provider may recommend using retainers to maintain the teeth's new position and prevent them from shifting back over time. Contact us today!

The Advantages of Invisalign

Discreet Appearance

One of the most significant advantages of Invisalign is its virtually invisible appearance. Unlike traditional metal braces that are highly noticeable, Invisalign aligners are made from clear, transparent plastic, making them virtually undetectable when worn. This discreet design allows individuals to straighten their teeth without feeling self-conscious about their appearance, making Invisalign an appealing option for teens and adults.

Comfortable Wear

Invisalign aligners are custom made from a smooth, comfortable material that fits snugly over the teeth. Unlike traditional braces that can cause discomfort and irritation due to metal brackets and wires, Invisalign aligners are gentle on the gums and soft tissues of the mouth. Additionally, there are no sharp edges or protruding wires to worry about, making Invisalign a comfortable and irritation-free orthodontic option.

Convenience of Removability

One of Invisalign's unique advantages is its removability. Unlike fixed braces that are bonded to the teeth for the duration of treatment, Invisalign aligners can be removed when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. This feature allows individuals to enjoy their favorite foods without restrictions and maintain optimal oral hygiene throughout treatment, reducing the risk of cavities, gum disease, and staining.

Customizable Treatment

Invisalign treatment is highly customizable to suit each patient's unique needs and preferences. Using advanced 3D imaging technology, orthodontists create a customized treatment plan that maps out the precise teeth movements throughout treatment. Each set of Invisalign aligners is custom made to fit the patient's teeth comfortably and exert gentle pressure to shift them into the desired position gradually.
